This crochet poncho for women is light weight and was designed using light Lion Brand Mandala weight #3, DK yarn. I designed a few patterns using similar crossed double crochet stitch and all of these finished projects are beautiful. Please check my crochet pocket shawl that was designed using the crossed over double crochet stitch and another pocket shawl here or crochet throw here. The finished poncho is 30 inches from the center neck to the bottom point and 20 inches from the side neck edge to the side bottom edge. Gauge is 14 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches (10 cm).
This poncho is made of a two separate rectangles that are crochet together to construct a poncho. The crochet hook used to crochet this poncho is US I/9 – 5.5mm. This pattern is written in American Standard Terms.
The pattern is in multiples of 2 and the poncho is one-size-fits-most from small to extra-large; however, if you prefer to make a smaller or larger sizes use multiples of 2 plus 1. The poncho is created by crocheting two large rectangles, sewing or crocheting them together, and crocheting a simple double crochet border around the bottom edge.
Yarn
To crochet this poncho I was using 2 Lion Brand Mandala, Griffin color, weight 3 yarn, 590 yards per skein or 540 meters per skein, 100% acrylic, yarn weight 3 light. If you decide to make a bigger size or to add more rows or stitches you will need a 3rd skein.

Now you have 2 same size rectangles. Weave in all loose ends. Place the 2 rectangles next to each other wrong side up with the first rows in the middle.
Form L shape. Make sure the last row is at the bottom and the first row is at the top. You also can watch a quick video here.
Pin the two sides of the 2 rectangles together and crochet them together starting from the bottom by inserting the hook through 2 sides, yarn over, pull through the loop, yarn over and pull through the loop.
You can also sew the 2 sides together. In that case use a long string of yarn (triple amount of the length of the seam you will be stitching) and sew the sides together. Depending on a stitch you may need to have the rectangles good side up.
Once the 2 sides are connected, flip the piece the right side up. Fold the rectangles the way it is shown in a video here.
Pin the two sides of the 2 rectangles together and crochet them together. Make sure the both sides of the neck line is the same length.
Once the above steps are complete, using the same yarn crochet a border around the bottom edge. Start at one corner and crochet 1dc in each stitch and 2 dc in each row. Crochet 3 dc in each corner.
Finishing: With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
