This crochet throw pattern named Let it Snow is super gorgeous! I wanted to make it 45 inches by 35 inches , but without checking the length I crocheted 7 rows and realized that the throw was 50 inches long! Oh well, after giving a second thought I decided to keep it 50 inches. The 45 inches throw is perfect for me, but I am the smallest person in a house 🙂 and it will be much better for others to use it if the throw is a bit longer.

This pattern is written in American Standard Terms. The pattern is multiples of 2 as such if you want to me a smaller or bigger sizes please use multiples of 2 plus 1. When using this Let it Snow crochet throw pattern count a crossed dc as 2 dc stitches and count the 2 chains as a dc.

Yarn

I love this off white color and it emphasizes the pattern very well. I was using the Lion Brand Wool Easy Chunky weight 5 yarn, unfortunately, this yarn is discontinued. Nevertheless, it is off white color and you can get other chunky weight 5 yarn from Lion Brand or other brands as well.

To crochet this pattern you can use of white Premier Serenity Chunky Solids, Acrylic yarn. Another great option to crochet this throw is Lion Brand Yarn Hue & Me Bulky Yarn. If you are looking for the wool blend you can get Alpaca yarn or Merino wool. You can also find chunky Merino wool in other colors here.

I was using approximately1400 grams, 1530 yards, 1400 meters yarn to finish the 50 inches x 40 inches crochet throw.

How to for beginners

How to crochet dc = double crochet stitch: Yarn over and insert the crochet hook into the stitch. Yarn over and pull through the stitch. You should now have three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through two loops. Yarn over one more time and pull the yarn through two loops.

How to crochet xdcb = crossed double crochet stitch working the 2^nd dc behind the first dc: Skip one stitch, dc into the next stitch, then dc into the skipped stitch as follows: Yarn over and come back to the stitch you skipped from the behind of a double crochet stitch you made, insert the hook into the stich from the front of the stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops. Continue by skipping a stitch, making a dc and coming back to the stitch you skipped. You can see a short video tutorial how to crochet this stitch here:

How to crochet xdcf = crossed double crochet front stitch: Yarn over, skip the next stitch and insert the hook into the following stitch and made a dc stitch. Yarn over, come back to the stitch you skipped from the front of the double crochet stitch you made, insert hook into the stitch from behind and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through first two loops, yarn over and pull through last two loops. Measurements: 50” X 40”

Gauge: 11 stitches and 7 rows = 4 inches (10 cm)

Crochet hook: J/10 – 6 mm

Material:  Chunky, weight 5 yarn, approximately 10 skeins fishermen (off white) color yarn. One skein has 140 grams, 153 yards and 140 meters. Total yarn used was approximately 1400 grams, 1530 yards, 1400 meters.

Start by chaining 150+1. If you use a different size please use multiples of 2+1

Row 1: Insert the hook into the 3^rd chain from the hook, dc in each chain across (150 dc counting 2 chains as a dc)

Row 2: ch 2, turn; xdcf across, dc in the last st (150 dc)

Row 3: ch 2, turn; xdcb across, dc in the last st (work xdcb as it was noted in “How to crochet” above. Work xdcb in previous row’s xdcf), (150 dc)

R4: ch 2, turn; dc in each st across (150 dc)

R5: ch 2, turn; dc in each dc across (150 dc);

Row 6: ch 2, turn; xdcf across, dc in the last st (150 dc)

Row 7: ch 2, turn; xdcb across, dc in the last st (150 dc)

Row 8: ch 2, turn; dc in each st across (150 dc)

Row 9 through Row 71 Continue repeating row 5, Row 6, Row 7 and Row 8

Fasten off and hide the ends. With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
