Pattern Instructions

Again, you can get ads free pdf copy pattern on Etsy here. By doing so you support my small business and it gives me more opportunities to create and to share more patters with you. Start this pattern with a mint color yarn, ch 5 and connect the chain into a ring with sl st: insert the hook into the first chain, yarn over, and pull the yarn through the first and through the last chain.

Round 1: ch5, 2-tr cl in a ring, ch2, in a ring crochet *tr, ch2, 2-tr cl, ch2*, repeat 4 times (total 5), connect with sl st in a 5ch space (6 tr, 6 2-tr cl).

Round 2: ch3, 2dc in a space, *3dc in next space*, repeat around, close the round with sl st in 3ch top (36dc), fasten off.

With a pink color yarn make a slip knot, insert the hook into the next dc (the middle dc of a 3 dc group) and pull though the loop. (For this pattern it is important to start into a middle dc of a 3 dc group followed by previous row’s tr. Please ensure you are not starting in other dc stitches).

Round 3: ch3, dc in same dc, *2dc in next dc* repeat 3 times (total 10dc counting 3ch as a dc), *2 FP tr in 1st round’s tr, sk 1-dc, 2dc in next dc repeat total 5 times (10dc)* repeat around, close the round with sl st in 3ch st. (72 st’s)

Fasten off and hide the ends. Use the same color yarn.

Round 4: make a slip knot and insert the hook in the previous row’s dc between the petals and behind the 2 FP tr st’s (this is the dc we skipped and did not crochet when working Round 3). Pull up the loop, ch3, in same dc crochet (dc, 1ch, dc), 2ch, *BPsc in 5th dc, ch2, in previous row’s dc between the petals (behind the 2tr st’s) crochet (dc, 1ch, dc, 1ch, dc), 2ch*, repeat, close the round with sl st in a 3 chains space.

Fasten off. Change to an emerald green color yarn.

Round 5: make a slip knot and 1ch in a 2 ch’s space before a V stitch, *2dc in 1ch space, 2dc in next 1ch space, 4 dc in next space, 2dc in next space, 2sc in same space, 2sc in 1ch space, 2sc in next 1ch space, 2sc in next space, 2dc in same space, 4dc in next space, 2dc in 1ch space, 2dc in next 1ch space, 4sc in next space, 4sc in next space*, repeat, finish with 3 sc in last space, close the round with sl st in a chain (72 st’s counting ch1 as a st).

Before starting Round 6 insert the markers after each 5th dc in a 5th round. This will be the stitches we will work the tr stitches into.

Round 6: ch1, 2hdc, 3dc, tr, 3dc, 3hdc, 5sc, *3hdc, 3dc, tr, 3dc, 3hdc, 5sc*, continue around, finish with 1hdc (72 sc). Fasten off.

With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.

Granny Squared Blocking

The finished granny square is approximately 8.5’’ X 8.5 inches.

Crochet as many granny squares as needed for your blanket. This pattern includes 20 granny squares. Block the granny squares by slightly soaking or spraying with the water the wrong side and then pining the corner triple crochet stitches and the sides onto the blocking board forming the 8.5 inches squares and leaving them overnight and until they are dry. You may start blocking the granny squares as soon as a few are finished and then continue crocheting the remaining for the blanket.

Once all the squares are blocked, have the squares laid out in the way you are going to join them into a blanket. For this pattern the squares are joined 4 x 5.

Joining Granny Squares

There are many techniques to join the squares and you can use any of them if preferred. I will use a flat braid join stitch, the same size crochet hook and emerald green color yarn.

To start, crochet the first round completely around the first square. With the right side facing up insert the hook into the 3rd stitch before the corner tr st, pull up the loop and sc, 4ch, skip 2 st’s, sc in a corner tr st, 4ch, sc into the same tr st, *4ch, skip 2 st’s, sc*, repeat around and in each corner tr stitch crochet (sc, 4ch, sc). Finish the round with sl sl in 1st chain of a 4 chain’s group. Fasten off, hide the ends.

Start working on a 2nd granny square. With the right side facing up insert the hook into the 2nd granny square’s 3rd stitch before the corner tr st, pull up the loop and sc, 4ch, skip 2 st’s, sc in a corner tr st, 2ch, sl st in 1st granny square’s corner space, 2ch, sc in 2nd granny square’s tr st, *2ch, sl st in 1st granny square’s next 4ch space, 2ch, skip 2 st’s, sc*, repeat until the corner tr st is reached.

Once sc in a corner tr st is made, 2ch, sl st in 1st granny square’s corner space, 2ch, sc in 2nd granny square’s tr st, *4ch, skip 2 st’s, sc*, repeat around and in remaining corner tr stitches crochet (sc, 4ch, sc). Finish the round with sl sl in 1st chain of a 4 chain’s group. Fasten off, hide the ends.

Take a 3rd square, insert the hook into the square’s 3rd stitch before the corner tr st, pull up the loop and sc, 4ch, skip 2 st’s, sc in a corner tr st, 2ch, sl st in 2nd square’s corner space, 2ch, sc in 3rd square’s tr st, *2ch, sl st in 2nd granny square’s next 4ch space, 2ch, skip 2 st’s, sc*, repeat to the corner tr st. Once sc in a corner tr st is made, 2ch, sl st in 1st granny square’s corner space (into the opposite square’s corner space), 2ch, sc in 3rd granny square’s tr st, *4ch, skip 2 st’s, sc*, repeat around and in remaining corner tr stitches crochet (sc, 4ch, sc). Finish the round with sl sl in 1st st of a 4 chain’s group. Fasten off, hide the ends.

Same way continue joining the other squares into a blanket. Always start in the square’s 3rd stitch before the corner tr st.

Work on a border with a mint color yarn. Insert the hook into the first space after the corner space and pull up a loop, 2ch, 2dc in same space, *3dc in next space*, repeat around. In each blanket’s corner space crochet 5dc and 3dc in each space other than the corner.  Close the round with a sl st in 2 chain’s top. Fasten off.

With emerald green color crochet the 2nd border row. Insert the hook into the first row’s dc, pull up a loop, and chain 2, then dc into each dc. In a corner 5dc group work dc, 2dc, 2dc, 2dc, dc and then continue with dc in each dc. Close the round with sl st in 2ch top. Fasten off, hide the ends.
