Crochet Shell Stitch Pattern

In this easy to crochet shell stitch pattern the chain stitch, double crochet stitch and slip stitch are used.
To crochet this shell stitch pattern I am using multiples of 5. The crochet hook used to crochet this pattern is G 6 / 4 mm and the yarn is medium, weight 4.
Crochet Shell Stitch Pattern Instructions
To start make a slip knot.
Make a starting foundation chain and begin first row.
The starting chain should have multiples of 5.
Once you have the number of stitches, multiples of 5, skip 4 chains and into the 5th chain from the hook make a double crochet stitch, then skip 4 chains and into the 5th chain crochet the following: double crochet stitch, make 4 chains and a double crochet into the same stitch. Continue the row by skipping 4 chains and into the 5th chain crocheting a double crochet stitch, 4 chains and a double crochet into the same stitch. At the end of the row you will have 5 chains. Skip 4 chains and into the last chain crochet a double crochet stitch, make 2 chains and crochet a double crochet stitch into the same last stich.

Start working on a second Shell Stitch row
Turn your work and make a slip stitch into a space. Then make 2 chains and crochet 2 double crochet stitches into the same space.

Then continue crocheting 5 double crochet stitches into each chain space.

Finish the second row with 3 double crochet stitches into the last space.

Start working on a 3rd row
Crochet 4 chains and turn your work.
Crochet a double crochet stitch into a very first 2nd row’s double crochet stitch.

Then skip four 2nd row’s double crochet stitches, and into the 5th 2nd row’s double crochet stitch crochet a double crochet stitch, make four chains and crochet a double crochet stitch into the same 2nd rows double crochet stitch. Basically you will crochet double crochet stitches into the middle of each shell.

At the end of the row into the last stitch crochet a double crochet stitch, make 2 chains and crochet a double crochet stitch into the same stitch.

Continue repeating Row 2 and Row 3 as needed for your project.
